Raw Living – Environmental & Sustainability Policy

Raw Living was founded to make hard-to-find health foods more accessible. Alongside our food range, we supply sustainable lifestyle products such as organic bedding, eco kitchen supplies, and a wide selection of organic, vegan, natural beauty and skincare products. Our customers are discerning individuals who want the best for themselves and for the planet.

Our Commitment

Sustainability has always been at the heart of our business. We work only with suppliers who share our ethical values - ensuring high standards for farming practices, production methods, worker welfare, and packaging. We regularly showcase our suppliers’ dedication through our podcast series and the Further Info tab on each product page, where customers can learn about the company ethos and sustainability credentials.

Ethical Sourcing & Fair Relationships

Our own-brand range is organically certified wherever possible. We build long-term, transparent relationships with our suppliers to ensure that workers are treated fairly and communities are supported.
For example, our best-selling cacao is sourced from a socially and rurally responsible farming co-operative in Peru that actively improves the quality of life for local farmers and their families. We use this cacao in our own-brand raw chocolate bars, which are packaged in recyclable cardboard and biodegradable plastic.

Responsible Packaging & Shipping

When dispatching orders, we reuse and recycle packaging materials wherever possible. When additional protection is needed, we use compostable packing chips and biodegradable tape. Our own-brand packaging is printed with eco-friendly inks.
Our main courier partners are Royal Mail and Parcelforce, both of whom are investing heavily in sustainable delivery solutions, including the transition to electric vehicles and carbon-reduction initiatives.
We are also powered by Ecotricity, the UK’s greenest energy supplier.

Certifications & Recognitions

  • Ethical Company Award – awarded by The Good Shopping Guide since 2011, recognising our standards across environment, animals, and people.

  • Living Wage Employer – accredited since 2012.

  • Organic Certification – through OF&G since 2012.

  • SALSA Certified – demonstrating that our food safety systems meet robust, independently audited standards for small producers.

  • Best Ethical Health Food Brand (2021) – Southern Enterprise Awards.

Environmental Philosophy

We believe that adopting a vegan lifestyle is one of the most impactful choices individuals can make for the environment. As an entirely vegan business, we are proud to support that change.
We also recognise the extensive environmental damage caused by conventional farming, which is why all our products are organic — even when not formally certified — as we choose to support smaller, responsible producers.

Health and sustainability are interconnected. You cannot separate the wellbeing of individuals from the health of their environment. By promoting products that support both, we empower our customers to take personal responsibility for their own wellbeing and the planet’s.

Continuous Improvement in Packaging

We constantly review and upgrade our packaging materials to the most eco-responsible options available. While we prefer to avoid plastic, it currently remains the most practical solution for many food products due to its protective qualities and recyclability.
We use the thinnest plastic possible without metallic linings to facilitate recycling. Compostable alternatives are not yet suitable for many products because they have limited shelf-life, are often made from non-sustainable corn, and require specific industrial conditions to decompose properly — infrastructure that is not yet widely available.
We continue to monitor innovation in this space and will transition to new materials as viable, truly sustainable solutions emerge.
